The Greek vineyards play an important role in the development of the wide range of unique and special Greek wines. The Greek vineyards are divided into four main categories:
• Mountainous & Semi-mountainous
The Greek vineyards are for the most part mountainous and elevated, which characterizes most of the PDO wine zones in the country. The mountain, the elevated and coastal or lakeside vineyards have several important advantages because of the dry conditions that prevail in the country. On the other hand, the mainland and, to a larger extent, the volcanic vineyards may not have these advantages, however they have other specific characteristics that make them stand out.
